Milkweed - Giant Swan - Gomphocarpus physocarpus
Giant Swan Milkweed (Gomphocarpus physocarpus) or ‘hairy balls’ as it’s commonly referred to, is a dramatic and essential addition to any pollinator-friendly garden. Its large, fragrant clusters of soft pink to mauve flowers are a magnet for butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, making it perfect for naturalistic bouquets, pollinator gardens, and meadow-inspired designs. Beyond its beauty, this hardy perennial supports monarch butterflies as a larval host plant, giving your garden a vital ecological role. A standout in both cut-flower arrangements and wildlife-friendly landscapes, Giant Swan Milkweed is a must-have for gardeners who value both show-stopping blooms and pollinator support.
Type: Perennial
Height: 36–60”
Seed Packet Contains: Minimum 25 Seeds
Seed Starting Directions:
Milkweed seeds require cold stratification for best germination. Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost or sow directly outdoors in early spring or fall. To stratify, place seeds in a moist medium in the refrigerator for 30 days. Sow seeds just below the soil surface, keeping soil consistently moist. Germination typically occurs in 10–30 days. Transplant seedlings outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and seedlings are hardened off. Space plants 18–24” apart to accommodate mature growth.
Once an order is placed, we cannot add or subtract items. If you want any additional items not included in your original order, please place a new order. We are unable to combine shipping on separately placed orders.
Please note that we do not ship seeds internationally.
