Hyacinth Bean Vine Seed

Purple stems, lilac-rose blossoms that create shiny 2–3" magenta pods, after flowering. We use both the bloom and pods for cut flowers. They’re not only a hit with local florists, they looked beautiful growing on trellis’ in our raised bed garden.

Tender perennial in Zones 9–10. Best grown as an annual elsewhere, hardiness zones: 2-10

For earlier blooms, start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost, or directly sow outdoors in spring once all danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures are consistently above 70 degrees F. If starting indoors, plant seeds into seed starting medium 1/2” deep, keeping temperature of growing area around 70 degrees F. Seeds will germinate in 4 to 7 days. Transplant seedlings outside after the first leaves have set and plants have had an opportunity to harden off. This plant is a vine, so a trellis or similar type of support is needed.

Ht. 10–20', climbing vine.
